I went to a basketball game tonight. Go Nuggets! It was a lot of fun. I am not what you call a basketball aficionado, but I know a little. I have good friends who are willing to share their knowledge as well. The game itself, I imagine, won’t stand out as anything special, but we won and it was a lot of fun.
I enjoyed people watching…even my own friends. My dear friend, Amirta, who knows less than I do about the sport, was cheering for both sides. When they missed the shot, she say, “It’s okay. Your mom loves you.” She didn’t think that the people behind the basket waving their signs and booing the opposing team member making or sometimes missing their foul shot was sportsmanlike. We also cracked up every time the announcer announced a point by the other team: Basket (last name of opposing team member) in a deep monotone voice.
There was a pack of boys all under the age of eleven right in front of the suite waving their signs, dancing to the music, and applauding when their team scored. My friends and I spent half the game trying to figure out what was on one of the signs. We finally managed to put all the pieces together. It said: Dear Knicks, you can keep Melo, but please give back Chauncey. Apparently, a few team members were traded the night before.
I think Rocky the Mountain Lion mascot for the Nuggets is definitely my favorite part of the game. He’s hilarious to watch with his over the top gestures and his backwards half court shot that he made on the second shot. Awesome!
